What is a Guardian Home?
Guardian homes allow us to expand our program while ensuring that each and every dog has an incredible life as a family pet! The guardian home program benefits both the dog, the guardian home family, and the breeder!
Perks:
-
You get one of our BEST puppies, typically our pick of the litter without paying thousands of dollars!
-
We gift our guardian families cash for each litter produced, typically $100 for papas and $500 for mamas! We raise and care for all of the puppies.
-
We will pay for your first training class with Dianne Keck of Neuro Dog Training, as well as your first puppy preschool class at the Zoom Room!
-
We will pay for 5 weeks of training classes when your puppy is 1 year old if you choose to get him/her Canine Good Citizen Titled!
-
We pay for your dog to be thoroughly health tested (DNA, OFAs, PennHIP), as well as the cost of all health care related to breeding.
-
We offer discounts on annual vaccinations and routine veterinary care.
-
We pay to spay or neuter your dog at his/her "retirement".
Requirements:
-
Guardians must live within an hour's drive from our home in New River and not plan to move out of area for at least the next 5 years.
-
You cannot own another intact dog. Neutered and spayed dogs are OK!
-
The dog must dwell primarily indoors, be kept up to date on vaccines, free of parasites, and be kept well groomed. Poodles & doodles need to be professionally groomed and clipped a MINIMUM of every 8 wks with thorough brushing in between to prevent matting.
-
Just as you would for any pet, you'd be responsible for all "normal" dog expenses, including food and grooming.
-
Must commit to and complete our 4 month S.M.A.R+.T. puppy training and socialization program with trainer, Dianne Keck.
-
For female dogs, the family must be willing to have the dog live with us for up to 9 weeks to whelp and nurse her puppies. Our goal for most females is to have 3 to 4 litters. If you're unable to be separated from your dog for extended periods of time, this program is not right for you. Guardian families are allowed to visit weekly once the pups are 2 weeks of age. This is a great way for our pups to get socialization!
For males, we may only need him for a couple of hours or a couple of days at a time, but this can be several times per year, which requires a flexible schedule! For males and females, guardians are responsible for all transportation to/from veterinary appointments, breedings, etc. -
Sonoran Standard retains legal ownership of the dog until his or her "retirement" and spay or neuter.
